JUMP! faces the problem of human rhythm in dialogue with the rhythm of the world. Dance is the answer to a question which is implicit in the environment that surrounds us: how to keep walking even as everything is collapsing?
Fall, jump, suspension.
We use the clown as a metaphor for the human condition. Buster Keaton continuously modifies his body and the physical laws governing it in function of a persistent march. He exploits disasters to nourish the rhythm of his gags. Pure dance in harmony with the movement of the world. In this sense, his figure is totally contemporary. We chose to work starting from an empty space, from a pair of performers working on physical comedy, slapstick, and gags. Upon this rhythmic fabric, two dancers seek the geometric essence of a graceless movement, free from form. The difference in languages within the same space creates a rhythmic dialogue, like musicians with different instruments playing the same symphony. A continuous counterpoint between concrete actions and abstract movements. The fall, if viewed upside down, becomes a jump, an attempt to fly.
