A twelve-meter steel spiral suspended in the void.
Through acoustic transducers, the steel resonates within the space.
Spectators can enter and walk along its form, touch it, listen to the sounds and feel the vibrations, press their ear against it to decipher the words.
A shell, a serpent, an antenna that captures and resonates.
GRAND MOTHER is a work of sound and plastic art, a multi-perceptive environment where the circular movement of the audience completes its choreographic intent.
The sound content is an electronic score of sounds and voices that arose from field research. We spent a long time meeting and recording elderly people, searching for a special relationship, a distant memory: someone who narrates and someone who listens. The intimacy and depth that is created when sharing a fairy tale, in which even strangers immediately set aside formalities, plunging into a mysterious and profound place. Childhood, the native language, memory, dreams, and images.
While experiencing the installation, hearing the words without seeing the speaker, creates a sense of estrangement. The phantasmal dimension of the voice emerges in the absence of the body.
